Vision clinics in Western Nebraska serve 193 students
"We're so grateful for this opportunity for our students,” said Megan Soundry, K-12 principal of Hayes Center Public School who brought students to the vision clinic in Trenton. “If you weren’t here to provide this service, it wouldn't be available for them because they don't have the means or know the importance of proper vision."
Thanks to the partnership of the Nebraska Foundation for Children’s Vision, Nebraska Optometric Association, Nebraska Department of Education, Educational Service Units 15 and 16, Nebraska School Nurses Association, and VSP Vision Care Eyes of Hope mobile clinic, 193 underserved students received free vision exams during four days of clinics in Trenton and North Platte. Of the 193 students seen, 164 needed prescriptions and received free eyeglasses: 103 pairs made onsite on the Eyes of Hope mobile van and 61 sent to the VSP lab.
Thank you to the doctors of optometry who volunteered their time and talents to provide exams to students from these public schools: Hitchcock, Southwest, Chase County, Wauneta-Palisade, McCook, Hayes Center, Maywood, Cambridge, Maxwell, Brady, Wallace, Hershey, Sutherland, Ogallala, and North Platte.
