Advocacy

As the only advocate for optometry, the AOA and NOA advocate for the optometric profession, ensuring that our members are listed to and heeded in Washington, D.C., and the state capitals, and the third party area.

It's the support of our members like you who make victories possible. Member doctors help optometry keep our seat at the table whenever and wherever health care policy decisions are being made. This means achieving historic wins at the federal level like our physician status in Medicare, making comprehensive pediatric health and vison care a national priority, and enacting a federal law to ban health plans from discriminating against us. It also means taking on any anti-optometry groups who want to control how we practice, deny us full recognition and reimbursement and place patients at risk.
